Apache Fire evacuations lifted in Butte County
PALERMO — Evacuations for the Apache Fire in Butte County were lifted Tuesday night.
Cal Fire's Tuolumne-Calaveras unit said the fire started in the community of Palermo, just south of Oroville, and has burned more than 690 acres, while containment is at 75% as of Thursday.
All mandatory evacuations were lifted, meaning residents could now return home.
The mandatory evacuations were for zones 865, 866, 868, 869, 884, 885, 886, and 887 in Palermo. Evacuation warnings were in place for zones 867 and 883 in Palermo and zone 826 in southeast Oroville. You can go here to view a map of the evacuation orders that is actively updated.
All road closures were also lifted.
An evacuation shelter had been moved to the Butte County Fairgrounds at199 E Hazel St. in Gridley. The shelter at the Church of the Nazarene in Oroville was closed due to the proximity of the fire.
Small animals could be taken to the Del Oro Small Animal Shelter at 156 Mono Ave. in Oroville, and large animals could be taken to the Animal Shelter at Camelot located at 1985 Clark Road.
At least 14 structures were destroyed and at least one firefighter was injured.
