Amtrak Train From Sacramento Kills Pedestrian In Berkeley

BERKELEY, Calif. (AP) - Officials say an Amtrak train struck and killed by a man as he was trying to cross the tracks in Berkeley.

Union Pacific spokesman Francisco Castillo says the train was traveling from Sacramento to San Jose when it struck the man Monday.

Castillo says none on the train's 101 crew and passengers were injured. The unidentified victim was declared dead at the scene.

Amtrak spokeswoman Vernae Graham tells the Oakland Tribune passengers were bused to the Emeryville station to reboard and continue traveling toward San Jose.

She says two of the train's three crew members asked for relief for the day.
