Amtrak train bound for Bakersfield hits vehicle on tracks in Elk Grove

SACRAMENTO COUNTY – An Amtrak train bound for Central California struck a vehicle that was on the tracks early Friday morning, officials say.

According to Amtrak, train 702 was heading from Sacramento to Bakersfield when, just before 7 a.m., it hit a vehicle in the Elk Grove area.

There were 19 passengers along with crew on board, with Amtrak noting that no injuries have been reported.

It's unclear if anyone was injured in the vehicle.

Due to the incident and investigation, the train is delayed and it's unclear when service will resume.
