Ambulance Catches Fire At Antelope Fire Station
ANTELOPE (CBS13) - A Sacramento Metro Fire Department ambulance went up in flames this morning inside of a fire station garage.
The fire broke out at around 4 a.m. at 7352 Roseville Road in Antelope.
A fire department spokesperson says firefighters were sleeping when they smelled smoke coming from the garage. Their firefighting gear was located in the area where the ambulance caught fire, so they had to use a garden hose to battle the blaze.
"Our biggest goal was to get the front doors up and the engine out. We wanted to protect the engine from the fire, at the same time we needed the engine to put out the fire," said Captain Rich Rubialis in a statement.
Despite the ambulance being a complete loss, a spokesperson says it'll be business as usual.
"Things can be replaced, people cannot, so this is a situation where we will get that ambulance -- another one -- back into service again. And we've got the public to serve, so we go right back to work," said Chris Quinn, a spokesperson for the department.
Flames were limited to just the ambulance. Damage is estimated at $200,000.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
A replacement ambulance was up and running at 6 a.m.
