Alleged UC Davis Cyberstalker Appears In Court, Bail Set At $500,000
YOLO COUNTY (CBS13) — A man accused of being a cyberstalker was escorted into a Yolo County courtroom on Friday.
Shackled and facing serious felony charges, UC Davis Police say Eric Bowling used his cellphone to harass at least a dozen victims through text messages throughout the UC Davis community.
Investigators have not disclosed how Bowling allegedly got the victims' cellphone numbers.
However, they say it could be as simple as pulling the numbers from someone's Facebook page.
Andy Fell with UC Davis recommends students shouldn't be so casual with private information on social media, and not broadcast their every move.
Investigators say in Bowling's case, one student at UC Davis complained about his alleged cyberstalking, and police believe there are more victims out there.
The judge refused to lower Bowling's bail below $500,000 because of evidence and allegations presented in court.
His preliminary hearing was continued until next week.
