Across The Top Project Shifts Directions Friday Night

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – Expect major delays on Interstate 80 Friday night and into Saturday as the Across the Top project shifts directions.

Starting at 11 p.m., a stretch of eastbound I-80 from the Sacramento River to Watt Avenue will have lane restrictions and multiple freeway entrances and exits shut down until 9 a.m. Saturday.

"It's really a pain in the butt," said Sacramento resident Kellie Dobson.

These eastbound on and off-ramps are closed: Northgate Boulevard, Norwood Avenue and Raley Boulevard.

The Winters Street off-ramp is also closed.

"When I come home and my off-ramp is closed, I have to go up to Garden Highway and then get off the freeway there and come back," Dobson said.

Dobson works nights and knows this won't be a quick commute home.

"It's going to be really frustrating cause I won't get home till super late tonight, I'll have to go the other way," Dobson said.

And it doesn't help that lots of people will jamming up I-80 late tonight because of a major Sacramento event.

"It's a Friday night, usually there is not going to be heavy traffic, but we also got the State Fair starting up tonight," said Dennis Keaton from Caltrans.

In addition to backup, the express lanes from Northgate Boulevard to Longview Drive will be removed.

"It's been a headache since they've started construction," said Sacramento resident Christina Hernandez. "It seems like it's worse when you're in a hurry."

The Across the Top project is expected to be complete by the summer of 2016.
