Abandoned boat that washed up on Tahoe shore removed and destroyed

KINGS BEACH – An abandoned sailboat that washed up on the shores of Lake Tahoe has been hauled out and destroyed, officials say.

The Placer County Sheriff's Office says the boat had broken free from a buoy, then washed up on the shore in the Kings Beach area across from Safeway back in early August.

Officials say, with the boat's owner not being able to care for or remove the boat, the legal process was started to get the vessel out.

On Thursday, the sheriff's office announced that the boat had finally been removed and destroyed.

"We've finally reached the finish line," wrote the Placer County Sheriff's Office in a statement.

The boat had proven to be a nuisance and a hazard along the beach, officials say.
