Aaron Sorkin: Steve Jobs' Family, Friends 'Guessing At' Portrait Of Movie
SACREMENTO (CBS Sacramento) -- Oscar-winning screenwriter Aaron Sorkin and Oscar-winning director Danny Boyle are discussing the challenges they faced while making their new film "Steve Jobs."
Apple co-founder Steve Jobs died four years ago this week. The new film chronicles his brilliant concepts, flaws, and legacy.
Sorkin and Boyle appeared on "CBS This Morning" and spoke of the various challenges they faced with the Jobs Family and friends.
"Steve Jobs was a brilliant and very complicated man who had complicated relationships with his eldest daughter, Lisa. He denied paternity for the first part of his life. They had an unusual relationship after that," Sorkin told CBS. The film also explores other complex relationships with his partner, boss, chief engineer, and director of marketing.
Apple CEO Tim Cook and Laurene Jobs, Jobs' wife, previously tried to block production of the film.
"When you believe in something you sometimes have to continue that believe despite the forces that might be reigned against you," Boyle said. "When you make your mind up about something you have to keep faith in it. When I read it, this felt true."
One main complaint from friends and family of Jobs is that the film is art, not fact or journalism, and that the public may not recognize that difference.
"It's not flattering, it's not inaccurate. I think it's very important to say that they haven't seen the movie. Whatever portrait they feel we paint, they're guessing at," Sorkin said.
"It's an uncompromising portrait. By that I mean it shows the extraordinary gifts of the man and some of the flaws," Boyle added.
The film chronicles monumental product launches from 1984 to 1998 and consists of three scenes in real time.
Michael Fassbender, Kate Winslet, Seth Rogen, and Jeff Daniels star in "Steve Jobs," which opens nationwide Oct. 23.
