DELHI – An 8-month-old girl died and three adults were injured in a crash in California's Central Valley on Tuesday night, the California Highway Patrol said.

The crash happened in northern Merced County around 8:30 p.m. on Vincent Road, north of Harding Road. This is more than two miles north of Delhi.

The CHP said a 20-year-old man from Delhi was driving a gray Honda Civic south on Vincent Road at an unknown speed. In the Honda were a 20-year-old woman from Delhi and an 8-month-old girl, officers said.

At the same time, a 43-year-old woman from Turlock was driving a white Toyota Highlander north on Vincent Road at an unknown speed, the CHP said.

Authorities said an investigation revealed that the Honda traveled into the west shoulder of Vincent Road before veering east and traveling into the north lane where it collided with the Toyota.

The Honda then continued traveling east and crashed into a fence. The Toyota blocked both lanes of Vincent Road, the CHP said.

The driver and passenger of the Honda were taken to the hospital with major injuries, officers said. The 8-month-old girl in the vehicle was taken to a hospital where she died, the CHP said.

The Toyota driver was taken to the hospital. However, the CHP did not say the extent of her injuries.

It's unknown if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.

Delhi is just south of Turlock and about 95 miles south of Sacramento.
