7.7 Magnitude Quake Hits Near Solomon Islands
KIRAKIRA, Solomon Islands (CBS13) - A big earthquake struck in the Solomon Islands Thursday morning and authorities are trying to determine if there is any tsunami threat.
The earthquake, which hit off the southwestern coast of Makira, registered a preliminary 8.0 magnitude before being downgraded to 7.7.
A tsunami watch has been issued for Hawaii due to the earthquake.
No tsunami watch has been issued for West Coast states, as authorities are still trying to determine if there is any tsunami threat.
