5 Things Kings Fans Need To Know About Free Agency So Far

Contrary to what the major media outlets are saying, there was more free agency news this weekend than just Kevin Durant and the expensive contracts.

The Sacramento Kings made some moves during this past weekend which didn't make headline news across the country, but they were significant if you are a Kings fan.

Some of the Kings news during the weekend wasn't necessarily about players the team signed, but where former Sacramento players are going to be playing next season.

If you're a Kings fan, here are the five story lines from the past weekend which you need to know.

1. Kings Agree To A Contract With Aaron Afflalo

Over his nine year career, Afflalo has played for five different teams and has averaged almost 12 points per game.

He's been known as a good perimeter shooter and defender.

The Kings signed Afflalo for two years and $25 million. He's projected to be the team's starting shooting guard, but he can also play small forward if the Kings wanted to play a small ball lineup.

He's not the type of player who will take a team to the next level, but he's a solid role player.

2. Kings To Bring Back Matt Barnes

Barnes spent one year with the Kings in the second year of his career back in 2004-05. He's been all over the place during his 13 year career.

He spent last season playing for Kings head coach Dave Joerger in Memphis.

The 36-year-old forward signed a two year, $12 million deal with the Kings to be a hard nosed defender and to annoy the other teams' best players.

He brings a toughness and leadership to the team as well as the ability to knock down an outside shot from time to time.

3. Garrett Temple Agrees To A Three Year Deal With Kings

Temple had the best season of his career last year with the Washington Wizards where he played the entire season for the first time.

The 30-year-old shooting guard averaged just seven points per game, but his ability to defend and play a bit of point guard makes him valuable to the Kings.

The Kings are giving Temple $25 million over the next three years.

4. Kings Rescind Qualifying Offer On Seth Curry

By rescinding the qualifying offer on Curry, it made the point guard an unrestricted free agent, allowing him to sign with any team.

Curry agreed on a two-year, $6 million contract with the Dallas Mavericks. If the Kings did not rescind the qualifying offer, Sacramento could have matched the contract offered by the Mavericks to keep Curry.

However, that didn't happen, leaving the Kings with just one point guard (Darren Collison) on the roster.

5. Rajon Rondo Agrees To Contract With Chicago Bulls

Once the New York Knicks and New Jersey Nets found their point guards for the upcoming season, it seemed like a foregone conclusion that the Kings would try to resign Rondo.

News came out on Sunday that the veteran point guard agreed on a two-year, $28 million deal with the Bulls.

With Rondo and Curry both finding homes elsewhere, the Kings will still need to find another point guard, whether that's through a trade or free agency.

If the Kings are shopping Rudy Gay, expect a point guard to be high on Sacramento's wish list.
