Sacramento man suspected of DUI after driving inside Natomas store, injuring 5 people
SACRAMENTO -- Five people were injured after an SUV crashed into the front of a department store in Natomas, and the driver was arrested for driving under the influence.
The crash happened Saturday just before 9 p.m. at the Ross store on Truxel Road which was still open.
A photo shows a scene of destruction. A gold-colored Jeep Liberty is inside the store, and nearby, you can see shattered glass, a damaged wall at the front of the store, as well as other items strewn about.
Five people were taken to the hospital, and one had significant injuries, according to fire officials.
"Several people did get clipped or struck directly by that vehicle. They suffered what I believe to be broken bones, maybe some internal injuries," said Sacramento Fire Department Captain Keith Wade.
He continued, "We had to very quickly triage and treat the injured and get people shuttled off to the hospital. It was a chaotic scene for sure."
Police said 44-year-old Brant Filosena was found to be driving under the influence and in possession of narcotics. He was arrested and charged with felony DUI and misdemeanor possession of narcotics.
Filosena's next court date is Nov. 15 at 3 p.m., and bail is set at $500,000, which he is ineligible to post because of a parole violation.
