Video shows shooting that injured 4 in north Sacramento

SACRAMENTO — Authorities said two minors, including a baby, were among the four people shot in the north Sacramento area Saturday night.

The Sacramento Police Department said officers responded just after 10 p.m. to a reported shooting in the area of Del Paso Boulevard and Fairfield Street.

Surveillance video obtained by CBS13 shows three men walking up to a corner store, looking at a group only partially in frame, and then firing shots.

As the men run away, you can hear screaming from men and women, then more gunshots.

Investigators confirmed a 1-year-old girl and a 10-year-old boy were among four people shot.

The two minors were located at the scene, each with at least one non-life-threatening gunshot wound, and taken to an area hospital for treatment, police said. The two adults were located later at an area hospital, each also with at least one non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

"First, I thought it was fireworks, and then my husband told me, 'No, there was a shooting down the street,' " said Amy Lopez, a Del Paso Heights resident.

Amy and Vic Lopez live blocks away from the shooting scene and fear for their own safety and their child's safety after learning two young children were hit by bullets close by.

"It's really painful to see kids going through that," Vic said.

Video from the scene Saturday night shows a stroller inside the crime scene with evidence markers scattered around it.

Sacramento police confirm the children knew each other, but it's unclear if the two adults were also known to them. Police have not released information on their relationships.

"I feel sorry for the mom or the guardian," Amy said. "It's horrible because kids are innocent. That's our future, you know?"

No arrests have been made. There was no information available on a suspect or suspects.

The Del Paso Heights community has struggled with safety and blight for decades. In the past year, business leaders there have invested in an unarmed community ambassador and hired off-duty sacramento officers to patrol the neighborhood.

Now, with more victims of gun violence here, including young children, one neighbor has a message for their family.

"I want them to know that people are praying for them and for their children's recovery," Amy said.
