3 inmates suspected in stabbing at Sacramento County Main Jail
SACRAMENTO — Three inmates face new charges after the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office accuses them of attacking another inmate.
It happened at around 2 p.m. on Wednesday at the Sacramento County Main Jail during recreation time on 5-East.
The sheriff's office says the inmate who was stabbed five to six times is expected to survive. He's currently recovering in an area hospital.
The three suspects were identified as 26-year-old Christopher Berger, 23-year-old Ismael Herrera-Mondello and 38-year-old Francis Chavez.
Berger is in custody for a murder conviction. He was sentenced to more than 133 years to life in prison for a gang-related drive-by shooting that killed a man and injured three others in Sacramento.
Herrera-Mondello is in custody for several felonies, including attempted murder. In 2021, the Sacramento Police Department released a video that showed a driver, later identified as Herra-Mondello, leading police on a car chase and firing several shots at police.
Chavez is in custody for attempted murder.
The three will be add-booked for various charges in connection to the stabbing.
