3-Alarm Fire Burns At Williams Energy Plant
WILLIAMS (CBS13) - A three-alarm fire burned on top of a rice hull silo at a business this morning in Williams.
The initial fire call went out to firefighters at 3:30 a.m. that the fire was burning at 6247 Myers Road. When firefighters arrived, they found flames shooting 40 feet into the air on top of a silo about 120 feet tall.
"We have a 115-120 foot silo, so access is a big issue. We're limited to a 77-foot ladder truck -- was able to get the fire somewhat knocked down and contained to a platform up top. And once we got that, were able to get ground crews up the side of the silo, up the catwalk and the ladders to make access," said Williams Fire Chief Jeff Gilbert.
The company converts the rice hulls into energy and sells it to PG&E.
Investigators are working to determine the exact cause of the fire.
