2 Women Assaulted, 1 Killed, In San Diego Home Invasion

SAN DIEGO (AP) -- San Diego police arrested a man suspected of stabbing a woman in her 70s to death after smashing his way into a home, taking her and another woman hostage and sexually assaulting them both.

The Union-Tribune newspaper reports 20-year-old Eduardo Torres is suspected of trying to break into other homes before he managed to smash a window and enter the victims' house.

Lt. Manny Del Toro says responding officers could hear victims in distress inside and the suspect yelled that he was armed and that he would kill the residents. Officers forced their way in and arrested Torres, who was armed with a 10-inch knife.

Both women, ages 74 and 50, had stab wounds. The older woman died at a hospital.

Officials say Torres could face charges including murder and sexual assault.
