10-Foot Snake on the Loose in Rocklin
ROCKLIN, Calif. (CBS 13) -- A 10-foot, 35 pound snake is on the loose in a Rocklin neighborhood. The owner told CBS13 that the snake escaped from its locked cage on Friday night.
"Oh heck no," said Lacey Chambers, who lives nearby on Delta Drive. "I'm not a fan of snakes. I do not like them!"
"Yeah, knowing that there is a 10-foot python out there, that's just creepy," said Haley Mekeel.
Owner Lou Fraser said he last saw the snake on Friday night around 11. But when he checked the cage this morning, the python was gone.
"The corners [of the cage] start to push out and the snake is all muscle so he could have easily pushed on this until it popped open," Fraser said.
The snake is a reticulated python. It's yellow in color and anywhere from 8 to 10 feet long, depending on it's stomach. It goes by the name of Bananajam.
Fraser said he typically closes the garage door, but last night, he happened to leave it open.
"He could have easily made it here over this fence within a matter of minutes," Fraser said.
And just behind the house is Ashady Creek, which could be the perfect retreat for a 10-foot snake.
"It's very likely that he's somewhere within this general area," Fraser said.
Word quickly spread in the neighborhood with a flyer posted up and down Delta Drive. On the poster, a warning that has neighbors rattled. It reads the snake. "Will eat your cats and dogs."
"I hope that nobody actually gets hurt and they find it quickly," said Zach Forsbep.
Fraser says the snake ate a few days ago so he shouldn't be hungry just yet.
"This snake is not on the loose looking for pets right now as we speak," Fraser said.
But that could change the longer the snake is out there in the wild. Fraser just wants his neighbors to be cautious if they do happen to see Bananajam nearby.
"Hey, it's here, take this seriously," he said. "Help me find it and don't bash its head in by a spade shovel."
