Crews knock down deadly house fire in south Sacramento

SACRAMENTO — New details released Friday describe what happened inside the south Sacramento home where a fire killed a man on Thursday night.

A spokesperson for the Sacramento Fire Department said crews responded at around 10:45 p.m. to the blaze at a single-story home along Archean Way.

Sacramento firefighters located the man, only described as being in his 50s, in a back bedroom during a secondary search of the residence after the fire was knocked down.

A female roommate told firefighters she heard the man screaming for help from the back bedroom, the spokesperson said. When she opened the door to help, she saw the room was fully involved in fire. She was able to get out of the home safely.

The fire originated in that bedroom, which was destroyed. The rest of the house had minor smoke and fire damage.

The cause of the fire has been ruled undetermined but was likely an accident, the spokesperson said.
