2 Children Die In Placer County ATV Accident

PLACER COUNTY (CBS13) — Two children, ages 5 and 3, are dead following an accident on a child-sized all-terrain vehicle over the weekend.

The accident happened just before 7 p.m. Sunday on the property of a gated home on Wise Road in Lincoln, which is in a rural area, says the CHP.

The two were riding a 50cc gas-powered ATV around the property when a parent of boys went to search for the two after they hadn't heard the sound of the ATV for a while. They found the boys in a nearby pond, said a CHP spokesperson.

The boys were flown from the scene by helicopter to local hospitals.

Both of the boys were wearing helmets at the time, say investigators. It's unknown how long they were in the water before they were discovered.

The 5-year-old has been identified by the Sacramento County Coroner's Office as Blake Lee Cronkhite. The identity of the other child has not been released.

Officers say the boys were not brothers.

The CHP says the ATV belonged to a family that was visiting the property.
