Yorkies Get Groomed, Animal Rescue League Prepares Them For Adoption
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- On Monday, we reported that 18 Yorkies were taken to the Animal Rescue League of Western Pennsylvania after their owner passed away.
Executive Director Dan Rossi told us the 18 Yorkshire terriers seemed to be in good condition, and well socialized. But they were desperately in need of a bath and grooming.
Though he stressed that the dogs would not be available for adoption until next week, that didn't keep the phones from ringing ever since the story aired.
"We've had over a thousand calls for 18 rescued Yorkies here, so just unbelievable," Rossi said the following day. "The most demand or response we've ever had for any media story we've ever done."
The females were the first to be bathed and groomed. Tuesday afternoon, it was the boys' turn.
Like the girls, they were groomed, washed and made presentable, free of charge at the Golden Bone Pet Resort just across the street.
"They've had all their vaccinations," Rossi said. "They're getting all cleaned up. We still need to do some spay/neuters here as well."

Meanwhile, he says the ARL has come up with a system to handle all the requests.
"We have an email set up. It's yorkies@animalrescue.org. And we're asking people to email their name and phone number. We'll assign each contact a number. We'll put all those numbers into a dog bowl, and we'll pick out 18 of them," says Rossi.
