WVU Coach Bob Huggins Not Keen On Cameron Crazies
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - Coming off the West Virginia Mountaineers 102-77 victory over the number 11 ranked Iowa State Cyclones, Head Coach Bob Huggins joined Starkey and Mueller to discuss his team, the state of college basketball and the Marcus Smart fan incident.
When it comes to the worst student section in college hoops, Huggins says he's not a huge fan of the Cameron Crazies.
"You want them to be enthusiastic for sure, but let's be honest, probably the place where they're the rowdiest and say the craziest things and the nastiest things is in Cameron Indoor and everybody says, 'oh what a great place, oh they're so clever,' you know, it's all in the eyes of the beholder."
There were reports before the season that Pitt and West Virginia had agreed to play a non-conference game at Madison Square Garden, but it was the Mountaineers who backed out of the game. Huggins addressed that report saying, "absolutely not, absolutely not. We'd love to play in The Garden, and we'd love to play Pitt, so that would have been a win-win."
As for the future of the two school playing each other, Huggins discussed how often he and Pitt Head Coach Jamie Dixon discuss renewing the rivalry.
"We haven't spoken about it recently, but we have spoken about it," he said. "We'll play, it's not us."
Huggins also weighed in on his teams NCAA Tournament chances after their latest marquee victory and Syracuse Head Coach Jim Boeheim's assessment that college basketball has never been better. But perhaps the best part of the interview was at the very end as Huggins "thanked" the guys for how inquisitive they were.
