Wounded Marine Receives Handicapped-Accessible Home
UNIONTOWN (KDKA) -- He lost both legs from a bomb in Afghanistan.
But now, he's got a handicapped-friendly home in Uniontown for free.
It's all thanks to an organization called Homes for Our Troops.
Marine Cpl. Brandon Rumbaugh is finally home.
He served two tours of duty in Afghanistan and spent 18 months in military hospitals after an IED blast took both of his legs.
It happened while Cpl. Rumbaugh was trying to rescue another wounded Marine.
Now, they are making life easier for the hero.
The handicapped-accessible home, built especially for Cpl. Rumbaugh, is now his for free.
It includes wider doorways, power doors, a therapy tub and even a safe room. It's all to make life easier for the permanently-injured Marine.
"It's one of those things that you just can't explain," said Cpl. Rumbaugh. "It's hard to talk about it, because it's so overwhelming that you can't find the words. It's amazing. It's perfect."
