Police: Violent Assault Outside Downtown McDonald's Might Leave Man Paralyzed

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - A man is paralyzed and a woman was assaulted with pepper spray during a fight with several women outside a McDonald's downtown.

Pittsburgh Police say they received calls about a man in the street who had been punched unconscious and a female who had been pepper-sprayed outside the McDonald's on Wood Street around 10:15 p.m. Monday.

Police say surveillance video shows an argument staring with an unknown male and the man and woman inside the McDonald's.

According to the criminal complaint, two McDonald's employees stepped in and tried to break up the fight between the victims and the unknown male.

Police identify one of those McDonald's employees as Roneese Davis.

The criminal complaint says Davis and another employee were seen pushing the victims from the scene.

One of the McDonald's employees then allegedly punched the woman in the face.

After that, police say several females surrounded and assaulted the woman, spraying her with pepper spray.

When the man tried to break up the fight, police say he was also attacked and knocked unconscious. Medics treated him on scene and transported him to a local hospital in very serious condition.

The criminal complaint says he underwent spinal surgery and is currently paralyzed.

Davis has been arrested on aggravated assault charges.

Police have not yet filed any charges against the second employee or anyone else involved.

KDKA's Bob Allen reports the McDonald's temporarily closed its doors.
