Woman Wanted In Connection With Ohio Murder Shoots Self In Beaver Co.

BEAVER (KDKA/AP) – A woman wanted in connection with the murder of the Cleveland Police Chief's brother attempted to take her own life in Beaver County on Tuesday morning.

A spokesman says the brother of Chief Calvin Williams was fatally shot in a residential area on the Ohio city's east side around 3 a.m.

The man found dead early Tuesday was identified by the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office as 34-year-old William D. Williams.

Police say they received a call around 2:50 a.m. reporting that a man had been shot, and emergency responders determined when they arrived that the man had died. Police didn't immediately release further details about the shooting and requested privacy for Williams' family.

Police were initially looking for the victim's 36-year-old girlfriend, Dana Johnson. Williams was found shot in the head inside the house he and Johnson shared.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, troopers spotted the vehicle on I-376 in Lawrence County and attempted to pull Johnson over. Initially, Johnson refused to stop and police followed her south until backup arrived and surrounded her car.

After stopping her vehicle, Johnson shot herself in the head. She was flown to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital.

"When she did stop, the troopers exited the vehicles and noticed that she was holding a revolver and she was aiming that revolver at her head. She fired one gunshot," said Trooper Dan Kesten of Pennsylvania State Police.

Police believe she may have been heading towards Maryland.

"There was a letter found in her car, how she wanted her remains to be disposed," said Beaver County District Attorney Anthony Berosh. "She was bent on taking her own life."

She remains in the hospital in critical condition. Initially, this morning, state police believed she had died.

As a result of the incident, I-376 had to be closed down between Chippewa and Brighton Township for a period of time.

The Cleveland Police Homicide Unit is investigating the death.
