North Versailles Walmart Shooting Suspect Surrenders To Police
NORTH VERSAILLES (KDKA) -- Rojanai Alston, a 22-year-old woman from Penn Hills wanted in a shooting inside a Walmart in North Versailles turned herself in to police Saturday evening.
Police said their investigation revealed that the victim was with another female inside the store Friday night. At some point, the two got into a fight with a third female. That's when police say Alston shot the victim.
"It's very fortunate that no one else was injured," Lieutenant Ken Ruckel said. "The trajectory of bullets went various different directions."
The first police officers to arrive on the scene found the victim in the store's electronics section.
"Am I going to make it out of here? Honestly, I didn't think I could," Vivian from Swissvale said. "I didn't even know I could still run."
One eyewitness that did not want to be identified said several shots were fired.
"I was inside the store in the back by the TVs and I heard gunshots," they said. "The first one that I heard, I thought it was an M-80, somebody playing a joke. After that they were consecutive, at least nine or ten shots and then everyone started running."
The Walmart was on lockdown as North Versailles, Homestead and Allegheny County police departments investigated. The store remained closed to customers Saturday morning, but they hope to reopen the store later in the day.
"I've never been turned away from a Walmart before," Camille Robinson said after being turned away from the store. "Just kind of shocked."
Police said Alston ran out of the store, and they believe she got in a silver Lincoln MKS with Pennsylvania license plate KTZ 0893.
According to police, Alston is facing attempted criminal homicide and aggravated assault charges.
