Woman, Child Hospitalized After Truck Loses Brakes, Lands On Top Of Car
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A woman and child were taken to the hospital after their car was hit by a truck that lost its brakes in Washington County.
Police say a woman driving a red truck was going southbound on Route 19 in South Strabane Township around 11:30 a.m. when her brakes went out going down a hill near the intersection with Racetrack Road.
The woman reportedly realized she was going too fast to make a turns, so she drove straight into a parking lot.
Her truck then crashed and drove over a car in the parking lot – inside of which was a woman and child believed to be 8- or 9-years-old.
"The driver of the red Chevy truck was traveling 19 south," said Officer Steven McWreath, of South Strabane Police. "She claims the brakes failed when she attempted to negotiate a turn onto Racetrack Road, she was unsuccessful, crossed two lanes of traffic, and then collided with parked cars here in this business, two of which were unoccupied, one was occupied."
Officials say the child was taken to the hospital by ambulance and a woman was flown from the scene by medical helicopter.
South Strabane Township Police are investigating the crash.
