Witness Comes Forward In Port Authority Bus Rollover Crash
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A witness to a recent accident between two Port Authority buses has come forward and is now helping in the investigation.
It's been one month since the two buses sped down the Parkway North, collided and one rolled down a steep hill.
All appears normal at the Port Authority bus barn in Ross Township, but there's a criminal investigation underway into the crash, which could have very easily turned deadly.
"The final outcome will be very conclusive and will explain exactly what occurred that day," said Jim Ritchie, the Port Authority's spokesman.
The Allegheny County District Attorney and Port Authority Police released images today of video from one of the buses.
It shows a woman who stopped at the scene and may have witnessed the crash.
We've been asked not to show her face, since the woman has now come forward.
"She contacted the Port Authority Police, identified herself, and is willing to help," said Ritchie.
The Port Authority and the District Attorney's Office claim the drivers were speeding and engaged in alleged horseplay when they collided.
But an attorney for one of the drivers claims a mechanical malfunction may have caused the accident.
The Port Authority is hoping this new witness can help sort it all out.
"Making sure we don't leave any stone unturned," Ritchie said. "We want to follow through with every possible lead that might be out there."
