Winter Weather Advisory Issued As Snow Closes In On Region
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The latest round of winter weather is closing in on our area and it has prompted some alerts.
According to the National Weather Service, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 7 a.m. Wednesday for the following counties:
Allegheny, Cambria, Fayette, Greene, Somerset, Washington and Westmoreland.
The difficult part will be nailing down when rain will switch to snow today.
Parts of state should begin seeing snow mixed in with flurries as early as 6 p.m. By 7 p. m., Pittsburgh should begin to see the changeover.
Both Tuesday and Wednesday will see off and on snow showers pushing through with most seeing between 2-3 inches of snow.
Cold weather will stick around for the weekend with highs in the low teens both Saturday and Sunday and more snow expected on Saturday.
To get a jump start on the accumulation, pre-treat your sidewalks and driveways. Adam Amrhein with Evey's True Hardware says the trick is to put down double what you normally would.
"You're trying to cover that whole area to prevent the snow and ice form bonding," Amrhein said.
Rock salt is the cheapest but you will have to use a lot of it. You can use less of Magnesium Chloride and Calcium Chloride.
