Winter Weather Advisory Extended As Wintry Mix Lingers

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - A wintry mix moved in overnight and is making the morning commute difficult for some drivers.

According to KDKA-TV Meteorologist Ron Smiley, it could be a long morning for drivers as slick spots are possible no matter your location.

The area possibly hardest hit could be up in Butler, as it appears the entire county could have seen up to a quarter of an inch of freezing rain, if not more.

Light rain and freezing rain in places where temperatures are below or near freezing will continue through at least 8 a.m.

The slick conditions have caused several accidents around the area, including a car sliding off the road and into a creek in Monroeville.

A high of 35 degrees will be reached this morning, but temperatures will slowly tick down for the rest of the day.

The cold temperatures and freezing rain combined to create some very interesting video of one local tree.

Check out this video posted to Instagram from Cranberry Township.

The tree was coated in ice and water was running down the tree trunk behind the ice.

That combination resulted in quite the interesting video.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 1 p.m. for Armstrong and Butler counties. The advisory is also in effect for the higher elevations in Fayette and Westmoreland counties.

A Winter Storm Warning is also in effect for Clarion, Crawford, Forest, Indiana, Lawrence, Mercer, Somerset and Venango counties until noon.
