PENN TOWNSHIP (KDKA) – Two gas line workers were injured in an incident early Monday morning in Westmoreland County.
According to emergency dispatchers, the incident took place along Main Street in Penn Township around 1 a.m.
Crews were reportedly on scene overnight to test a gas line. There was no gas or other fuel in the line.
Residents reported hearing what sounded like an explosion of some sort. Officials say there was no explosion and there was no fire. The noise heard throughout the area was actually air pressure being released from the gas line as a part of the testing process.
A written statement from Energy Transfer reads in part:
"Work did stop temporarily during this time to ensure the safety of these individuals and all others on site, but has now resumed."
Two people were injured during the incident, but it's not clear how. Both were transported a local hospital, where one was evaluated and released.
