1 person killed in Westmoreland County house fire

SCOTTDALE, Pa. (KDKA) -- One person has died after a fire broke out at a residence in Scottdale, Westmoreland County.

Fire crews were dispatched to the 900 block of Market Street around 5 p.m. Saturday. 

Westmoreland County Coroner Tim Carson also was called to the scene, according to KDKA-TV's Ricky Sayer. The man killed in the fire was later identified as 71-year-old Thomas Zeller, Coroner Carson said via a media release.

The incident safety officer on the scene confirmed that the flames were extinguished by 7:30 p.m. Two firefighters suffered minor burns.

"We were told we had two people trapped when we arrived. That turned out to be not the case," Jim Echard of the Scottdale Fire Department said. "We did have a victim up on the second floor who is deceased."

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
