Westinghouse Academy students to return to school in 'phased re-entry' plan after shooting

Westinghouse Academy students will return to in-person classes with phased reentry plan

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Students and staff at Pittsburgh Westinghouse Academy will return to in-person class this week in what the district is calling a "phased re-entry," officials with Pittsburgh Public Schools said.

Four students were hurt in a shooting outside the school on Feb. 14. Since then, students have been learning remotely.

Pittsburgh Public Schools said all students will work from home on Monday, and then students in grades 6-8 will return to in-person on Tuesday. Grades 9-12 will return on Wednesday.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the district said they want to support varying responses to trauma, and the "gradual re-entry will allow staff and students time to process and seek assistance as needed."

The shooting, last Tuesday, happened shortly after dismissal time.
