Tractor Trailer Plows Through Traffic Cones, Leads To West End Bridge Line Painting Mess

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The dividing yellow lines on heavily-traveled roads often fade and need to be repainted.

That's exactly what happened on the West End Bridge, but when crews tried to repaint the lines this weekend, the project didn't go as planned.

PennDOT's crews took advantage of the great weather on Saturday and the lighter load of traffic to redo the lines on the bridge.

Photos show that the crews put out traffic cones to keep vehicles off the fresh paint, and it worked until a tractor trailer came through, spewing cones left and right.

It also caused the initial blurring of the southbound lines.

Then, cars started dodging the cones and the situation went from bad to worse.

Now there are yellow track marks everywhere, not to mention a solid double yellow line where it should be broken.

There's no telling how many cars have yellow paint in their wheel wells, plus one truck.

The bridge is not going to stay the way it is now. PennDOT is already working with a contractor, which will come in and eradicate the paint where it shouldn't be.

Drivers should expect that work to be done sometime in the next week, during the daylight hours.
