Weekend Events To Clog Pittsburgh Roads
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – If you're driving through Pittsburgh this weekend, expect some delays and major road closures.
Both the EQT 10 Miler race and the 95th Annual Veterans Day Parade will close traffic in parts of – and around – downtown.
The Veterans Day Parade will take place Saturday, starting at 10:30 a.m. at the intersection of 11th Street and Liberty Avenue.
Just like years past, it will feature marching bands and other performers, as well as veterans from across the region.
Special recognition will be paid to those who have served our country since Sept. 11, 2001.
The parade will go through downtown Pittsburgh and the Strip District.
The EQT 10 Miler race starts at 8 a.m. Sunday. The course takes runners through several Pittsburgh neighborhoods including the West End, North Side, Strip District and downtown.
Thousands of runners are expected to participate.
You can check the course map at pittsburgh10miler.org.
With so many people planning to be in town Saturday and Sunday, there are some changes you need to know about. First, map out a plan for parking. All of the spaces at the Mon Wharf will be off limits.
Crews will be working on a ramp repaving project.
All vehicles parked at the Wharf have to be removed by 8 p.m. Friday.
Access to and from the Wharf will be blocked off until Monday morning.
That's not the only work that will be happening.
A stretch of Route 51, West Carson Street, will be closed between Stanhope and Corliss Streets.
The closure goes into effect tonight at 8 p.m. and lasts through 6 a.m. Sunday.
Southbound traffic will be forced to follow a posted detour.
The route takes drivers across the McKees Rocks Bridge, to Route 65, and then onto the West End Bridge, from there drivers can jump back on Route 51.
Allow extra time for travel.
