Weather To Blame For Power Outages Around Area
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - People across the Pittsburgh area woke up to cold weather, snow and power outages Monday morning.
The outages were scattered in pockets, but for those affected it was not a pleasant start to the day.
Crews in Monroeville worked to replace a damaged utility pole. About 650 customers there woke up without power.
In Washington Township, Westmoreland County more than 500 customers woke up without power.
High winds and heavy rain overnight is being blamed for the outages.
However, residents said they were prepared. One woman said she had a flashlight, lantern and kerosene heater ready.
At one point, Duquesne Light was reporting about 1,000 customers without power in the Pittsburgh area. First Energy was reporting the same.
By mid-morning those numbers dropped dramatically.
The power companies said they are not expecting any widespread outages as a result of the coming arctic blast.
