WBS Coach Hynes Named Devils New Head Coach, Pens Receive 3rd Round Pick
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - When the New Jersey Devils hired former Penguins General Manager Ray Shero, many speculated that one of Shero's leading candidates to be the teams head coach was Penguins minor league head coach John Hynes.
The 40-year-old Hynes becomes the youngest head coach in the NHL, ahead of former Penguins assistant coach Mike Yeo (41) and former head coach Dan Bylsma (44).
Hynes has put together an overall record of 231-126-27 with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. Under his guidance, the Baby Pens have gone as far as at least the second round of the AHL playoffs five times, while reaching the semifinals twice.
Now that it's official and the Devils have hired Hynes, much like with the Buffalo Sabres hiring Dan Bylsma, there was draft pick compensation that needed to be worked out.
The Penguins made the announcement of the deal the two sides struck.

This is the second compensation draft pick the Penguins received this offseason along with the aforementioned pick from the Sabres from Bylsma, but it could have been the third.
The Penguins passed on the opportunity to get a comp pick from the Devils in return for Ray Shero.
