Washington County Detective Involved In Fatal Pedestrian Accident

SOUTH STRABANE TOWNSHIP (KDKA) - An on-duty Washington County detective was involved in a fatal accident with a pedestrian on Wednesday night.

According to the Washington County District Attorney's office, the pedestrian died at the scene. The detective is with the district attorney's office.

It happened along a stretch of Route 40 in South Strabane Township just before 8 p.m. The victim was apparently walking along the highway.

"From the damage I see on the car, he appears to have been on the highway itself," Washington County coroner Tim Warco said.

For the coroner, it is a troubling death. The dark-skinned man had no ID, other than papers written with foreign writing on them.

"We're feverishly working to identify the poor soul that lost his life," Warco said.

As for the driver, KDKA is told he is a county detective, but the police and the district attorney declined to identify him. The coroner believes the driver would have had a hard time seeing the victim.

"He was in very dark clothing. He is an individual with dark skin, which with his clothing would have been very difficult to see," Warco said.

Pennsylvania State Police are investigating the incident and the Pennsylvania Attorney General's office has also been made aware of the incident and is investigating.
