Washington Co. Man In Rehab After Fla. Hit-And-Run Accident
CANONSBURG (KDKA) -- A Washington County man is now at a rehabilitation facility in Canonsburg after a nearly two-month stay in a Florida hospital.
Vernie Davis, 61, of Houston, was hurt on March 10 in a hit-and-run accident in Orlando, Florida.
At the time, Davis, who is an avid motorcyclist, was on his bike and wearing a helmet when he was struck. The driver took off.
His daughter, Jennifer, told KDKA-TV News that her father had a traumatic brain injury to the temporal lobe, but he is now showing signs of progress. He is still on a tracheotomy and a feeding tube.
"There's a lot of support here back home, and I think it's helping him in his recovery," she said.
This coming Sunday, May 18, there's a day-long fundraising spaghetti event at the American Legion Hall in Houston for Davis. Organizers are hoping for a large turnout.
"My father's insurance doesn't cover long-term facility care. After so many days, he has to come home where he'll have limited care," Jennifer said. "My father has to come home, whether he's ready to leave the facility or not."
