Warhol Documentary Aims To Paint Artist In New Light
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Abby Warhola and her fiancé, Jesse Best, are determined to show a side of Andy Warhol that's never been shown before in a new documentary told from the family's perspective.
Abby Warhola is Warhol's great niece.
She and Best live in Warhol's childhood home in South Oakland.
The couple, who are artists, started filming the Warhola family years ago about "Uncle Andy."
"Their connection to Warhol is strictly personal, so they don't look at him as an artist. He's strictly family," Best said.
The documentary marks the first time the family has ever opened up like this.
Having complete creative control comes with the responsibility of taking on all costs of the project.
Warhola and Best have put everything they have into the film, including all of their finances.
They're now using the crowd funding website Kickstarter.

It gives them only 30 days to raise $175,000 and that only covers the production costs.
It's a grassroots effort that they're hoping the city will get behind.
"We really need the support from our fellow Pittsburghers to get this thing moving," Best said.
The campaign launched today and in 30 days, will determine the fate of the untold story of Warhol.
"I guess my family's never really had a voice and I think they have a good story to tell. Just shed him in a new light that only people knew behind closed doors," Abby said.
