Fight at Versailles Borough home leads to deadly stabbing
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — A man was killed and two people were injured after an altercation between two men at a home in Versailles Borough escalated into a stabbing.
Versailles Borough police were called to the 400 block of Worthington Street just after 8 p.m. Thursday, something shocking for neighbors.
"I'm about to lay down, and I just hear all this commotion, all this like dogs barking and stuff," a neighbor, who did not want to be identified by name, told KDKA-TV Friday morning.
Police allege the suspect, Robert Kail, 40, got into a fight with the victim, 38-year-old Vinny Bazzone. They claim Kail pulled a knife and stabbed Bazzone.
According to the criminal complaint, Kail allegedly told a detective at the hospital after being sedated that he was drinking tequila and smoking weed with the victim before things escalated.
Bazzone died at the scene. According to the criminal complaint, Kail subsequently went to the other part of the duplex.
Police allege he stabbed another man and assaulted a woman. They are both expected to survive.
Police claim Kail drove away from the scene. Later on, apprehended by McKeesport police and taken into custody.
According to the criminal complaint, officers claim Kail fought with them, accusing him of also hurting a K-9 by slamming the dog to the ground and choking it.
All of last night's activity is very bizarre, neighbors said. Some who knew Bazzone remember him as a "nice guy," someone who was friendly and helped out.
"Everyone stays to themselves, so it's very shocking that something like this happened right next to me," the neighbor said.
Kail's charges include criminal homicide, two charges of terroristic threats, assault of a law enforcement officer, and assaulting a police animal.
He is now in the Allegheny County Jail pending preliminary arraignment.
