Vehicle with kids inside caught in crossfire in Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A man who was driving through Pittsburgh's Squirrel Hill neighborhood with three kids inside his vehicle was caught in the crossfire of a shooting on Tuesday.

Police say that officers were called to the area of Morrowfield Avenue just before 5 p.m. on Tuesday for reports of shots being fired.

When officers arrived at the scene, witnesses told them that two drivers shot at each other before leaving the area. Police said a third vehicle with three kids inside was hit by the gunfire.

The driver was grazed in the shoulder by a bullet, and police say the man was treated on scene by medics and turned down being taken to the hospital.

None of the children inside the vehicle were injured.

"There would have been other ways to settle your difference than to bring it onto this street and to endanger people. We're lucky there weren't people outside just walking," neighbor Michal Deutel said.

Deutel said she was supposed to be in the car with her 8-month-old.

"We would have been in the car like two minutes after when they came, so thank God we were still in the house," Deutel said.

Police say that the investigation is ongoing and are asking anyone who witnessed the shooting or may have surveillance video to call 412-323-7800. There are no arrests.
