U.S. Steel To Announce Plans For World Headquarters In Pittsburgh
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The old Civic Arena was torn down years ago, but the debate about what to do with the land continues.
The current plan included hundreds of new apartments and offices in the Hill District.
Now, KDKA-TV has learned a major corporation will build their world headquarters at the site.
The redevelopment plans for the 28-acre site already calls for 1,100 housing units, a hotel, restaurants and retail.
But Monday, the Pittsburgh Penguins are expected to announce a major new addition – an agreement with U.S. Steel to build their world headquarters here.
A press conference will be held Monday at 11 a.m.
The steel giant, which largely shaped this region, had once been the primary tenant in the Steel Building on Grant Street, which is now headquarters for the region's current largest employer, UPMC.
Details about their new building are expected to be unveiled at a press conference, but by building it and staying local, U.S. Steel is reaffirming its commitment to Pittsburgh and anchoring the Penguins' redevelopment plan.
