Power Back On At Mercy Hospital After Outage

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Power has been full restored to UPMC Mercy Hospital after an outage had the facility running on a backup generator for a few hours on Wednesday afternoon and evening.

Duquesne Light crews were called to the hospital to make repairs and restore power.

According to officials, the hospital remained open during the outage and "vital healthcare operations" remained functional. No one was evacuated.

However, radiology services were temporarily unavailable as a result of the outage.

Emergency patients were also taken to other hospitals while power was restored.

Officials also say, so far, there have been "no cancellations to any patient procedures, surgeries and tests scheduled for July 30."

Officials with Duquesne Light say a transformer overload caused the outage.

They are investigating why it happened.
