PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Snow plows clocked plenty of miles all over the region Saturday, and in some cases, crews had to pull vehicles out of trouble.

The snowy conditions overnight created a busy morning for emergency crews.

The 10th Street Bypass in Pittsburgh was closed after the Allegheny River surged. Icy water filled the bypass. A taxi cab was stuck on the roadway. The driver and passenger were treated at the scene by emergency responders.

The Bypass was still flooded and closed to traffic around 7 p.m. Saturday.

On the Parkway East, one PennDOT truck wasn't plowing, but pushing a car to get it to the side of the road.

As the snow continued to fall, Public Works and PennDOT urged drivers to stay off the roads so plows could continue clearing the snow and ice and putting down salt.

The winter storm was a Level 2 alert in the City of Pittsburgh, which meant city roads were plowed and salted as necessary.

One Public Works driver had to plow Fort Duquesne Boulevard multiple times to clear the snow.

A portion of Mt. Royal Boulevard was closed at the Hampton-Shaler border when part of the side of the road crumbled.

It reopened around 10:45 a.m.

Snowfall totals varied across western Pennsylvania. Most of the snowfall ended by mid-morning.
