One killed, another injured in Homewood shooting
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- One person was killed and another was injured in an early-morning shooting in Pittsburgh's Homewood South neighborhood.
First responders were called to the area near the intersection of Hamilton Avenue and North Homewood Avenue just before 4 a.m.
Police say one man was shot in the head. He was taken to the hospital where he later died.
Another victim was shot in the leg. He was taken to the hospital and was rushed into surgery.
Alexa Lee, the victim's aunt, says when her phone rang early this morning, she knew it wasn't good. But she never expected to hear these words: "Jaylen's been shot."
"I just talked to him yesterday," Lee said of her nephew Jaylen Martin. "I got to say goodbye to him, I gave him a hug. He was in his room getting ready. He was with his friend Paul, they were hanging out."
Police said Jaylen Martin was shot in the head while he sat in his car near the intersection.
Lee says she just can't figure out what they were doing in that part of town because that wasn't her nephew's neck of the woods. She says the 24-year-old was from Ambridge and living in Kennedy Township with his grandma.
Police say the investigation is ongoing.
