2 Arrested After Shootout In Homewood

HOMEWOOD (KDKA)- Police took a man and a woman into custody after a gun battle in Homewood early Wednesday morning.

According to police, a sergeant was patrolling the area when he heard multiple gunshots around 1:30 a.m.

He then noticed an SUV driving toward him without any lights on. The officer pulled the SUV over a few blocks away.

"I observed a vehicle traveling towards me with its lights off," said Pittsburgh Police Sgt. Charles Henderson. "That vehicle had been involved in the gunfight. There were multiple bullet wounds on the car."

Timothy Bazemore, Jr. and Medina El were arrested. Police say El was driving the SUV and Bazemore was the passenger.

Police recovered a gun and said Bazemore was wearing a military-grade bulletproof vest.

Bazemore was wanted on some warrants out of Butler County, he was also on house arrest.

"A known gang member and a convicted felon," said Sgt. Henderson. "Actually, on house arrest, and there were warrants for him in another county. And we found him wearing a military-grade bulletproof vest."

The shots were fired along Kelly Street in Homewood. Police say 21 shell casings were found at the scene with possibly even more left on the street. Several cars on the street were hit by bullets.

It does not appear anyone was hit by the gunfire.

Police believe other people were involved in this shootout and they are searching for those suspects.

El has been charged with carrying a firearm without a license and drug paraphernalia. Bazemore is facing a list of charges as well.

"Anytime we can get the violent felons off the street, it's a boon for us and for the people who live in Homewood," said Sgt. Henderson.

Officials with Allegheny County say El is currently suspended without pay from her job as a caseworker.
