Truck slams into Altius restaurant building in Mt. Washington
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A truck slammed into the side of a popular Pittsburgh restaurant early Tuesday morning.
A pickup truck slammed into the side of the Altius restaurant at the intersection of Grandview Avenue and Oneida Street on Mt. Washington just before 4:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
The truck was stolen and the driver fled the scene, Pittsburgh Public Safety officials said.
The cause of the crash is unknown at this time.
The owner of the restaurant said they hope to have it back open to customers as soon as possible, but there was a lot of damage.
"It's awful. Luckily, it happened late at night and nobody got hurt," Lee Mazzarini, the building owner, said. "Significant damage was done to the front of the building. We lost a bathroom, shut the water off to the restaurant, a lot of leakage downstairs. So, we'll see what the next steps are, talk to the building inspector and contact the insurance agency."
They will also have to be cleared by the county Health Department.
