Trio Of Penguins Deliver Season Tickets With Stanley Cup In Tow
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Around this time each year, Penguins season tickets are delivered by a player.
But this year, three players - Bryan Rust, Tom Kuhnhackl, and Conor Sheary - showed up with tickets at a home in Mars. To top it off, they also toted the Stanley Cup, won by the Penguins earlier this year.
Ten-year-old Jacob Lestitian and his brother Matthew, 8, never expected to see the hallowed cup on their dining room table. Neither did their dad, Kevin Lestitian.
"We thought just the one player would be coming to drop the tickets off," he says. "But to have all this, and the Stanley Cup, it's beyond words."
Jacob expected they might get some autographs, "and maybe play a little street hockey. But then when it was the Cup, I was really excited."
The three players then joined the brothers in a bit of street hockey in the front driveway. With the Stanley Cup perched on the sidelines, the boys could pretend they were playing for a little more than just a "driveway championship."
"As a kid you always dream about, you know, playing in the NHL, and maybe winning a Stanley Cup one day," said Penguins forward Tom Kuhnhackl.
"They're out here having fun," Penguins forward Bryan Rust added. "I know when I was that age, all I wanted to do was just have fun, and enjoy the game."
At the end of the visit, the young fans still had their tickets. But the Keeper of the Cup keeps the Cup.
