RMU Fans Proud To See Their Team On National Stage

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Not everyone could be in the stands at Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte, but the All-Star Sports Bar and Grill might have just been the next best thing.

It's Robert Morris University's official bar, and on Friday evening, the RMU bandwagon packed the place.

"Especially after the Kentucky game, our name originally got on the map. But now it's even more in… getting a lot more notice," said Holly Goodwin, an RMU cheerleader. "It's incredible."

"It's unbelievable just being a part of Robert Morris University and hopping onto March Madness and everything," said Jeff Butya, the restaurant's manager. "The university's been great, the students, the alumni. It's fantastic, it's an unbelievable feeling."

They knew No. 1 Duke was going to be a tough battle. But fans were just happy to have the chance to take them on.

"I'm super excited that I'm watching my team play Duke right now," said another fan.

But Mo Madness has catapulted the school into the national spotlight.

"There's more pride, there's more Colonials showing their spirit wearing the shirts," Mitch Kramer, an RMU alumnus, said.

"From the alumni standpoint, everyone is calling and texting, and blowing up social media. We just can't thank everyone enough because it's been great," added Amanda Musser, another RMU alumnus.

A pride certainly not contained to just one month on the calendar.

"To roll out of the Fort Pitt Tunnel and see the Robert Morris sign, there's nothing better than that," Andy Ruffalo, an RMU alumnus, said.

Robert Morris' journey to the big stage comes on a week when the national spotlight is shining on Pittsburgh with regional games at CONSOL Energy Center.

And out-of-town basketball fans are loving our city.

"I love Pittsburgh," said Levester Johnson, of Indianapolis, Indiana. ""As a matter of fact, coming into the city through the tunnel, I was amazed at what I saw. People say keep your eyes open as you come through the tunnel. It paid off."
