Tough Loss For Pitt Women's Basketball, 58-47

PITTSBURGH (KDKA)-- It was a tough day for the Pitt women's basketball team as the Panthers came up short, losing to the Syracuse Orange by a score of 58-47 Sunday.

The Panthers have now lost three in a row, each of which by double-digit margins. As the game got underway in the first half, the Panthers looked like they were still shaken by their 109-66 loss against the Fighting Irish from last Thursday, as the score was 30-18 at the half.

In the second half, it was a different story, as the Panthers started with a 9-0 run and would later cut the deficit to just three as the score was 46-43 with just over three minutes remaining in the game. Then it was all Syracuse as they went on a 12-4 run to finish the game.

Despite the close second half, the Panthers struggled from the field as they shot just 22.6 percent as they had just two players in double-figures with guard Ashlee Anderson finishing with 13 points and fellow guard Brianna Kiesel finishing with 12 points.

On the other side, Syracuse had four players in double figures in the contest guard -- Brianna Butler finished with 14 points and fellow guard Sykes finished with 15 points. Then off the bench, two players finished with double-doubles as Taylor Ford finished with 10 points and 12 rebounds and Briana Day finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

The Panthers look to snap their three-game losing streak as they aim to pull off an upset on the road against No. 3 Duke on Sunday, Jan. 26 at 2 p.m.
